Inspiration Monday

As I am sure many of you are in full swing Christmas mode, I wanted to stop in and share what our incredible design team has been busy creating.  This is a time of year when sometimes crafting gets put on the back burner to make room for decorating the Christmas tree, and rolling the favorite cherry and peanut butter balls.  Today I finished a stunning Christmas kit that I had promised myself I WOULD complete before Christmas day.  My goal was accomplished and it felt great to sit down and slow down for a bit to just create.  I recommend you all to take at least a few minutes to create a tag, a card or stamp that plain gift bag.  If you need some inspiration look no further because our design team always comes through with stunning ideas and be sure to share your creations with us here to get in on the random draw by December 31 at midnight.

Lisa Hoel is getting ready for the Holiday season and has come up with a great way to include gift cards with her yummy goodies.  I love this idea Lisa, a perfect gift for those holiday parties throughout the festive season.

We have cuteness overload with this next card from Karin Akesdotter.  Karin does an amazing job with her copics, the colouring is incredible! Super Cute!

Bobbi Smith has been busy creating some ATC tags perfect for any gift. Be sure to visit her blog to see all the details of each tag that might not be visible at first glance.

Beautiful job Bobbi!

Our team are really gearing up for the gift giving season with some stunning tags.  Kath Stewart continues the theme with these gorgeous ones.  What a great addition for any package!

Merry Christmas from our Inspiration Emporium family to yours! Enjoy everything that comes with this holiday season safely. h

Tis the Season

Happy December everyone, I trust everyone is in the swing of things for the holidays, celebrating in true fashion.  I always find this time of year so hectic getting ready for Christmas parties, get togethers and everything that goes with the holiday season that we sometimes forget to slow down.  I hope you are able to take some time to reminisce of the year that is coming to a close and appreciate all the blessings we have had over the year.  As I look back I realize it is not the material things that has brought me joy it is the people in my life, near and far that are what matter.  It is not money that brings happiness, it is people!  I may not be able to afford all the newest and fanciest things but the love from family and friends is priceless and is far more important.  This industry has connected me to some amazing people that I consider lifelong friends and that I am blessed for.  As you enjoy the holiday season I hope you take some time to slow down and reminisce about what has brought you joy and also get to do a little crafting. Since everyone’s holiday traditions are as unique and individual as they are, what better theme for December then Tis the Season: everything goes! That’s right, there are no restrictions we just want to see you crafting and coming up with something unique to you!  This month’s random winner will be receiving a prize package value at over $50 from Inspiration Emporium.  All projects shared with us below will have their name entered into the random draw but be sure to do so before midnight December 31, 2015 so you don’t miss out.

Customizing Your Copic Markers Tutorial by Karin Akesdotter

Hi Everyone!

It’s my turn to share some tips on the Inspiration Journal where I and my super talened Inspiration Emporium teamies post new inspiration for you evey week. If you haven’t been already make sure to visit right away  – lots of amazing and inspiring projects !

If you don’t do this already I thought I’d inspire you to start customizing your copics. I often feel that I don’t have exact the tone of copics color that I need but settle with something close and good enough, but what I’ve done a lot lately is to mix my own colors using my refill bottles. It’s perfect because I can get exactly he colors I need. Copics has empty markers to buy but it works fine to use dried out markers in the same colorrange.

This is how I figure out how to refill my markers to get the color I want;

I use a metal palette and pour in one drop in one cup, two in the next and then three in the third.

What I do next is that I take out the color I want to mix it with – This time I wanted some new shades of grayish turqoise so I poured in 3 drops in the first cup, then 2 in the second and onle one in the last one.

I then use a brush and try my new colors on a piece of paper; (I acutally added one cup while I was doing this ) and this is the result: You have to be fairly quick because the ink dries quite quickly.

I just love all of these new shades, but decided I wanted to work with no 1 and 3 so when I refilled my copics marker I took the drops times 5 = 20 drops of G00 and 5 drops of B93 for the first color. For the second color I refilled 10 drops of G00 and 15 drops of B93. If you aren’t satisfied you acn always add one of the colors afterwards to get it the way you want it.

If you have never refilled your copics before there are lots of tutorials out there. Here’s one from the copics homepage;

Next I wanted to share how I make my own sprinkles.

I start out by collecting some different sizes of diecut small cirkles. These are insides of O’s, , eyes and sequins dies. If you go through your diecollection I’m sure you’ll be surprised at how many different sized dots you can actually cut. When I have the diecuts I want I tape some post-it tape to a piece of sturdy cardstock with the sticky side up and place the die-cuts face up on this. This will keep your dots in place when you color them and add the glossy accent.

I then color them. After coloring some I realized I wanted some darker ones too and added some B97 to my mixes. Just make sure you clean your mixing bowls right away so it doesn’t get too difficult to clean them out.

After I’ve colored the dots the shades I want them I add Glossy accent to each one of them. I then store them in a safe place to dry.

Let them dry completely before you start adding them to your projects. I use gluedots to adhere them safely. This is also a great way to store the dots you don’t use (-:

Here’s another example of where I used these sprinkles:

A New Week, A New Month…

Happy March All!  With a new week and a new month we all know what that can only mean…inspiration and a brand new monthly challenge for you all.  I believe our design team is hoping and wishing for an early spring when you see what they have created.  I am not sure about you, but this girl totally is as well!  I am SO ready for winter to be OVER! Don’t take things personally winter, but I sure could show you the door.

Up first, we have a cute, colourful and fun piece from our sweet Alice Wertz. I love the use of the different elements to create great dimension in this note card using stamps by Paper Smooches and no line colouring.  Receiving this in the mail would sure put a smile on the face of anyone opening it.

Ann Redfern had a great time using the Dimensional Cutting Pad by Tim Holtz and Sizzix for her CC3C submission she created two to share with us.  This first piece is a stunning creation with a beautiful bright colour combined with the crisp white.1-IMG_2055

A second piece from Ann keeps with the nature theme but this time uses the amazing dragonfly and again terrific colouring.  If you do not have a dimensional cutting pad of your own, this challenge will make you want one for sure with so many gorgeous pieces created.  Be sure to check out the challenge and projects HERE.

What a fun vintage looking piece by Karin Akesdotter.  This card takes me back to the fashion plates and scrap material of yester years.  This is a great use of Hero Arts’ Sew Stylish stamps.

There is nothing better than going to the mailbox and finding a sweet thinking of you note card from a special someone.  Karin Akesdotter is created this gorgeous card with beautiful subtle colours and a perfect way to say ‘Thinking of You’

Check out the fantastic colours and layers Bobbi Smith used in this masterpiece! This piece is definitely choosing to shine!!

If this card doesn’t bring brighter days ahead, nothing will!  Great colours used by Lisa Hoel that will sure brighten anyone’s day using the dimensional cutting pad.

Like I said it was a nature theme this week and butterflies are gracing many of the projects.  Be sure to check out the tutorial Bobbi Smith shared to see all the detail that went into making this stunning dimensional piece.

Wrapping up one monthly challenge only means we are in store for another new exciting one.  March brings with it the single sweet word of Spring and all that comes with it.  That hopefully means no snow, warmer temperatures and the signs of life renewed in nature.  For me it seems like a million years away with all the snow we have here but it can’t stay that way forever right??? What better way to celebrate March and Spring than with a monthly challenge of Spring Blooms. Your projects will need to include flowers in some way.  They can be stamped, floral paper, floral embellishments, die cuts…you get the idea.  Flower power might just speed up Spring or that is what we are at least hoping.  All entries are to be linked below and you have until March 31, 2015 to enter for a chance to win $50 to spend with us at Inspiration Emporium.  Show us your creativity and join in the fun! h

Weekly Inspiration – Part I

Wow, this has been a crazy quick month and I can’t believe we are nearing the end of it.  I am thinking in order to carry out some of the things I was looking to change and work on in 2015 I am needing to remember to slow down and live in the now.  I am thinking if I schedule the day so I have some structure I will actually remember it and not let it pass so quickly and have it lost.  Note to self…tomorrow’s agenda after the dentist (Urgh) is to scehdule my next week with things I am wanting to get done.  It is not January 1 but it is no better day to start! Speaking of starting, our monthly challenge A Fresh Start ends on January 31 so be sure to get your submissions in for a chance to win $50 to spend with us in Inspiration Emporium.
