Shelly’s Sweet Pink Flower Tutorial

Shelly Hickox made this gorgeous tag…we happen to be in adoration with it!!!

and…lucky us…and you…she is sharing a tutorial on that sweet pink flower!!!  so…here’s Shelly…

Supplies: Lining fabric or other synthetic fabric such as organza, satin, etc.; heat tool; Ranger Distress Stain; die cutting machine (Vagabond); Sizzix Tattered Florals die; glue; Kaiser Pearls – Champagne; tweezers or other tool for holding blossoms in place while heating and gluing; Ranger Non-Stick Craft Sheet.

Step 1: Determine what size flowers you’d like to make and cut fabric to fit. I folded mine so I could cut many at once. Place die onto cutting plates and run through the Vagabond.

Step 2: Separate flowers and place onto craft sheet in a single layer.

Step 3: Using your Ranger Distress Stain, saturate all of the flowers.

Step 4: Gather up all the flowers and squeeze them together, making sure the Stain has completely covered them.

Step 5: While still wet, begin heating a flower, holding it with your tweezers or other tool. The petals will begin to curl. Control the curling by pulling the heat gun away, heating each petal until you are happy with the effect.

Step 6:  When you’re finished heating the flower, this is what it should look like. You can go back at any point and reheat it, for extra ‘ruffliness’.

Step 7: Continue heating your flowers, one at a time, until you have a nice quantity.

Step 7: Begin stacking your flowers, gluing the centers as you go. For my flowers I used two larger blossoms and a small one for the center.

Step 8: Here are my completed ‘stacks’. I made a few tiny blossoms by stacking two small flowers on top of each other.

Step 9: Embellish the centers with pearls, rhinestones, or brads. At this point, you can still ‘zap’ them with the heat gun if you want to further ruffle the petals.

I used one of my flowers as an embellishment on the tag. The great thing about making your own using Distress Stains, is that you can match your flower to any project. Plus, they cost just pennies to make!

Thank you so much Shelly…as usual, we are blown away!!!!
