Chock-full of Goodness!

Hello, hello! I hope everyone had a great long weekend and are enjoying their week.  This is a great week at Inspiration Emporium with lots of exciting news to share with you.  Make sure you also check back on Friday for a super exciting announcement.  I can’t believe our summer months have gone and that we are into September already.  This means it is time for a new monthly challenge and announce the winner from last month’s submissions.  We won’t keep you all in suspense any longer and want to announce the winner for last month’s Everything Goes challenge…

Congratulations Number #21

Natural Colours and Anything Goes by Janna, Scrapping in the Attic

Please contact me at heather@inspirationemporium.com to arrange for your prize!

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared your talents with us and our followers.

As things get back to routine and summer vacations wrap up we see a change in the air.  That’s right Fall is in the Air, so there is no better theme for our monthly challenge than this.  Your projects can include back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, leaves etc.  You name it, if it is a part of your Fall then it can be a part of ours here at Inspiration Emporium.  All submissions are due by September 30, 2014 and can be linked below for your chance to win $50 to spend at Inspiration Emporium‘s online store.

For inspiration this week, our Education Coordinator, Chelle Fowler is here to share the perfect fall project in a great tutorial.  You will be able to create your very own vintage fall arrangement card.  Wow, this girl can watercolour anything and she is going to show you how.   Don’t forget about checking back Friday! h

Hi there, Chelle here with a watercolor leaf card to get us all in the mood for fall.  I wanted to try watercoloring on vintage dictionary paper;  I am happy with the result. I hope you find some inspiration in this project!

IMG_2418

I used vintage dictionary paper…when choosing the paper, you will want pages that are not too brittle and do not tear too easily.

IMG_2374

Glue three pages (or more if your paper is very thin) together using Matte Multi Medium in a thin layer.

IMG_2381

Stamp leaf images from blueprint sets using Jet Black Archival Ink.  Heat with your heat tool to set.

IMG_2382

Create a palette using Distress Ink Minis pressed onto the surface of your craft mat. Add a spritz of water below each ink spot.

IMG_2385

Add just a bit of water to the ink, you do not want to over saturate the paper.  I blotted any extra water off as I went.

IMG_2387

Using the lightest colors first, begin to color in your leaves.

IMG_2393

Continue adding colors until you are happy with the blended results.

IMG_2399

Once the leaves are dry, use a more concentrated (less water here) blend for details and shading.

IMG_2397

Allow your leaves to dry (or dry with your heat tool) before moving on.

IMG_2407

Trim down one leaf keeping enough of the dictionary page to create your background. Cut out the rest of the leaves leaving a little bit of a border. Ink all the edges with Antique Linen ink and a mini blending tool.

IMG_2404

Cut a card base from kraft card stock.  Ink Graph Background with Gathered Twigs Distress Mini.  Without using a block, stamp the card stock; you get an uneven texture without the block.  Repeat in spots using Peeled Paint Distress Mini this time.

IMG_2405

Ink the edges with Gathered Twigs and an Ink Blending Tool.

IMG_2406

Spritz water into your hand and flick onto your card base.  Dab large spots with a towel and heat dry.

IMG_2409

Adhere the main dictionary page layer with foam tape.

IMG_2410

This is the base you will build onto with your cut our images.

IMG_2411

Add orange Jute String around the card and layer on leaves with foam tape.

IMG_2422

It’s a simple arrangement allowing the vintage paper to shine.  I loved how the paper colored, and plan on trying this technique with more images.

Hope you enjoyed!

Chelle

April’s Monthly Challenge and March’s Winner

WOW is all I can say about the participation in March’s challenge.  Thank you for sharing what each of you do with us and our readers because you all make this Emporium family that much more special!  By using the random number generator, the winner of March’s monthly challenge is (drum roll please…..)

#8 Marjie Kemper.  Congratulations Marjie!!

Please contact me Marjie at heather@inspirationemporium.com and I can arrange for you to receive your prize.

I think April is going to bring out even more amazing artists because this month’s theme is ‘A Few of My Favorite Things’.  The sky is the limit with no real restrictions…using supplies that you really love can make for a super creative crafting time so we are hoping you will all take us up on this month’s challenge.  Let’s beat last month’s submissions of 65, I know we can do it so why not take on the challenge in your craft groups, crops and get-togethers.

To get us started, Linda Cain has created this gorgeous journal page using so many of our favorite Tim Holtz products.   The newly released Found Relatives collection is perfect and I find myself just flipping through them and creating my own little story about each of them.  I am sure we all have these beloved photos in our families that we look at often that conjure up great memories but never want to use them in a project. Now we have ones we can use and Linda has done an amazing job, as always, with this project.

Monthly Challenge

Happy March to everyone and I hope yours all came in like a lion so that we can get Spring on its way.   Before I announce this months challenge I first want to sincerely thank everyone that took part in last month’s challenge of ‘Say it with Words’.  There is some serious inspiration in every project submitted so thank you for sharing them with us and everyone reading.  Secondly, I want to announce the winner selected randomly from all the projects submitted which is #28 Claudia – Von Pappe II.  A big congratulations to Claudia!!  Please contact to me at heather@inspirationemporium.com and I can make arrangements with you for your prize.

Getting back to the spring idea, I think that this month’s challenge might also help to welcome it.  When thinking about Spring, I can’t help but think of life and new and what comes with this is Color.  Fresh green grass, bright yellow daffodils popping through the ground, and everything bright, vibrant and full of life.  This month’s challenge is A Splash of Color so this can incorporate anything colorful…paper, ink, paints, glitter, sprays, embellishments, you name it!   If it has color it is game!  Our very own Joy Kennedy created some tags that are a perfect kickoff for this month’s challenge…
